Final Project Documentation

Egyptian Bookcase

This is the bookcase I bought after I found out that building one wasn't going to be so easy.
I painted gold heiroglyphics on one side of each of the shelves

I drew the  Eye of Horus on top of the bookshelf and outlined a grid pattern around it
Then I used a woodburning tool on the outline. The wood wasn't the best so it was difficult and took a long time.
Here is what it looks like after burning the wood
I painted the top with gold paint and added some gems. I think it looks more Egyptian now

Here is pretty much everything I have worked on for this class

Final Project Proposal

Egyptian Bookcase

What I have in mind for the final project is something I spent a lot of time thinking of. I had a lot of ideas, well thats an understatement. But in the end I thought this would be challenging and at the same time spark my creativity. I hope to build a bookcase from scratch, but not just an ordinary bookcase. I want it to look like something that could have been seen in ancient egypt, but also make it an original design. I plan on working on it at home and also in class over the next few weeks. Thinking positively, I plan on finishing the bookcase on time. I am fascinated by everything about Ancient Egypt; art, history, culture, writing... and I think I will really enjoy creating this project.

Casting Multiples Process

Here is the mold I made out of the statue and below are the four multiples I made out of clay. They are all different, they evolve from having no facial features (kinda creepy) to being the most detailed.

So I probably should have used a mold release when I used the resin. The plaster got stuck to it so I had to break it apart with a hammer. Also, I didn't add enough red dye to the mixture so it turned out pink.

I don't think I will be using this mold again...

Casting Multiples Project

This statue is what I chose to create a two piece plaster mold. I want to make the multiples out of clay first and then use resin I bought with red dye. I think I will only be able to make one piece out of resin because it will stick to the plaster, so I only have one chance to get it right.

Ceramics Project- Jack Skellington

Here's what I made on Google Sketchup. Halloween is going to be here soon, so I thought it would be fun to make Jack Skellington from A Nightmare Before Christmas. I'm not sure which one I should pick, maybe both!

Here is the sculpture after it has been fired and painted

Wire Sculpture

Retro Headphones

I finally finished the wire sculpture! It took way longer to finish than I originally predicted, but I am happy how it turned out. I decided to leave the headphones part the way it was because I thought the spiral showed the line contour well.
